Nepal Art Trek (NAT)
Charity update
Well, its happened! Five of us went to Nepal and visited the Shree Shailiputri school at Dhamili Kuwa village in a remote area 200kms west of Kathmandu. I am pleased to say that whilst not entirely successful (some of our cargo was stolen whilst held in customs) we were able to hand over a considerable amount of art materials for the children to use.
We returned to England on 6th. April, a little tired, but very happy that we succeeded in what proved to be a very difficult task. We've had an amazing time and if you wish to know more, there is a page on this site which is dedicated to NAT with photographs and details of our trip.
UPDATE....UPDATE...UPDATE....at long last, we have heard that the cargo has been released and delivered to the school. Not all, however, as some packages had been opened and their contents rifled through. Whilst this came as no surprise (there is a great deal of corruption there, I'm afraid), it is still disappointing. Thank goodness, we bought and delivered the majority of the art materials ourselves!
WEEKEND COURSES- BERRY RING
Following a very successful weekend workshop in 2007, I will be running more in 2008. It was interesting to see so much progress being made over the three days by the students, most of whom were beginners...plus it was alot of fun. After a glass of wine at lunchtime, we were all painting well and saying daft things...such as Christine's "I've got watermelon in my sky" (I think she meant a cauliflower!), and "don't make your mix too washy-wishy" (that was me!) But seriously, we covered alot of ground and I could see real progress being made by everybody on the course.
The next course will be on "A seascape in watercolour" and will be a step-by-step painting spread over two days (allowing plenty of time to practice techniques). Places will be limited to six to alllow for individual tuition. This course is particularly suited to beginners or anyone lacking in confidence with their watercolours. Please go to the Workshops page for details.
Later on in the year is another 3-day course, spread over weekend, entitled "Loosen up your watercolour style". Please go to the Workshops page for details. Sorry...this course is full - if you would like to be kept informed of further course dates, please let me know. (email to: rosemary@rosemaryhale.co.uk)
FARNCOMBE ESTATE near Broadway, Cotswolds 2008
Set amidst beautiful countryside, our venue is Farncombe Estate. I will be hosting two weekend courses in 2008, tutoring on the subjects of line and wash, correcting mistakes in watercolour and finally, sketching techniques. For further details, please see: www.farncombeestate.co.uk
STAFFORDSHIRE OPEN STUDIOS September 20th. / 21st. and 27th. / 28th. 2008
I will once again be participating in this event. Berry Ring Studio will be open both weekends from 10am - 4.30pm. and I will be doing a painting demonstration at 2pm each day. Details of my participation and that of many other Staffordshire artists may be viewed on http://www.staffordshireopenstudios.org.uk/
MAGAZINE ARTICLES
Following on from my first article for Leisure Painter magazine in March this year, I have more planned and am busy writing one about rescuing mistakes in watercolour (due out in December). I am also writing about my travels and experiences in Nepal for Art of England magazine, though I'm not sure when this will be published.
TRIP TO THE ARCTIC!
I have once again been privileged enough to participate in an exciting, adrenalin charged painting trip abroad with Mr. David Bellamy, this time to Svalbard (also known as Spitzbergen), a group of islands well within the Arctic circle. I don't have the words to describe this momentous trip...lets just say the scenery and light was so superb, it was like being given a new pair of eyes (which is quite something for an artist!). See my web-page.SVALBARD for more photographs and paintings:
On the edge of the pack ice....a surreal world...
Enormous glaciers....breathtaking. The lines you can see in the foreground are polar bear tracks...very exciting....
...and there she is!
